The Latest Ford Mustang will make you to deal with a 4.0 liter Cologne V6 which only makes 210 horses and 325Nm of torque. Other than the Mustang, the engine is only found in trucks like the Ranger and the Explorer, and it also found its way into the Land Rover LR3 as a baseline petrol engine.

 

The Mustang has been updated for next year and FINALLY gets a proper ‘baseline’ V6, and this time from the Cyclone family, officially called the Duratec 37.

 

This engine can also be found in the North America Mazda 6 and CX-9. Displacement is down to 3.7 liters but the engine actually produces more power than the 4.0 liter it replaces.

 

The new Duratec 37 makes 305 horsepower and 380Nm of torque, which is actually more than the very modern Nissan’s 3.7L V6’s 366Nm, though that’s just comparing peak torque figures and not how wide the engine can make its peak torque.

Hyundai has released the new generation 2.4-litre GDI engine that uses direct injection to develop 150kW of power and will be used in the new Sonata.

 

Hyundai has finished off the development of its first ever direct injection petrol engine, codenamed Theta II GDI (gasoline direction injection).

 

The new GDI engine will replace the V6 petrol engine on the all-new Korean-market Sonata.

According to Hyundai Australia, it can neither confirm nor deny the Sonata badge will return on its mid-sized sedan, simply referring to the vehicle as the YF for the time being.

 

The Korean-market Sonata’s V6 mid-way will be replaced by the all-new 2.4-litre engine through 2010 that has the following outputs in its domestic configuration:

 

- Power: 150kW @ 6300rpm

 

- Torque: 245Nm @ 4250rpm

 

The four-cylinder GDI engine has an 11.3:1 compression ratio and is claimed to deliver 10 per cent better mileage than a similarly sized engine using conventional multi-point fuel injection.

 

Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s Sales and Marketing Director, Kevin McCann said the Theta II GDI convincingly demonstrates our parent company’s advanced powertrain engineering capabilities.

 

Nearly four years, the new direct injection engine has been under development and some $160 million has been invested into its research and development.
